Rutig Strandråg (“Chequered Lyme Grass”) is one of the first patterns designed by Ingela Berntsson.
Whether a little dishcloth or an ornate table-cloth, everything created by Ingela Berntsson radiates quality and care. When Ingela has developed a weave and a pattern at home on her loom, she then proceeds to wash, mangle, wrinkle, dirty and rewash it. If it measures up, then Växbo Lin takes the design and weaves a full-scale prototype. If it still meets Ingela’s standards, the cloth is put into production to be made into tablecloths, curtains, napkins or perhaps even a dishcloth in tastefully colored linen.
Växbo Lin are the only remaining spinnery and weavers of linen in Scandinavia. They operate their small-scale factory in the province of Hälsingland, spinning linen yarn and weaving linen textiles from our own yarn production.
The techniques, the material and the patterns build upon the age-old linen tradition in Sweden and Hälsingland.
Care advice from Växbo Lin:-
Always soak linen in lukewarm water for approximately 30 minutes before washing.
This is particularly important when you wash it for the first time.
Wash at 60˚C using a mild detergent without optical brighteners.
Very short spin. Stretch when hanging.
NOTE: Never tumble-dry linen.
Mangle or iron while damp, using high heat.
Shrinkage in the first wash is about 5 % in both directions.
