The Mayans of Guatemala have a unique weaving tradition, but their products have had only a very small market outside Guatemala. A low demand for their products is a great threat to the weaving tradition they have passed down for hundreds of years. Today Mira Maya supplies several weaving co-operatives.
Afroart was established as a foundation in Stockholm in 1967. The aim was to support, develop and spread awareness of Third World Crafts. Initially, Afroart, focused on the African continent, and later it expanded to include countries in Latin America and Asia.
