Dorte's Danish grandmother was known for her skillful knitting of cotton dishcloths. When she was no longer there to knit for her, and the last of her dishcloths were worn out, Dorte took up needles, crafting them for herself and friends.

As word spread, the demand for her handcrafted dishcloths grew, prompting Dorte to transition to producing them on a knitting machine.
