Burel Azulejo Wool Blanket - Emerald

In the steep, green valleys of Manteigas, Portugal, the Burel Factory weave their unique wool throws on ancestral looms.

Their exquisite, reliably weighty, slow-made blankets are created using the artisan techniques of centuries gone by, and each one is meticulously finished by hand.

Marrying traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary diamond design, and the perfect balance between warmth and weight, Burel's Azulejo emerald green blanket is sure to keep you warm as the temperature plummets.

A real labour of love from sheep to loom.

It all started with the Serra di Estrela mountains, the sheep that graze there, and a traditional wool textile called 'burel' - a warm, waterproof fabric that protected Portuguese shepherds from the harsh mountain elements.

While exploring the historic crafts of this Portuguese region, Isabel Costa and João Tomás stumbled upon the Lanífícios Império factory. Makers of traditional burel and blankets since 1947, this artisan business was struggling to keep up in a world spinning increasingly fast.

Thanks to Isabel and João, today Lanífícios Império has been reborn as the thriving Burel Factory, a hub of design that weaves tradition with modernity. The ancestral looms have been restored, vintage patterns have been rediscovered, and the ancient art of wool craft is being passed on to the next generation. Uma bela história!
